Helen Harman, academy Librarian, at Bristol Metropolitan Academy staged a Harry Potter themed event in the Library to celebrate Harry Potter World Book Night.
With the Library decorated to resemble Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Helen dressed as Professor McGonagall the transfiguration teacher at Hogwarts. Over forty students of all ages dressed in Harry Potter themed costumes making this a spellbinding experience for all involved.
Divided into Hogwarts House teams, students took part in a range of activities throughout the afternoon, including, a Harry Potter themed quiz, reading Harry potter books and many more. The event ended with homemade ‘Snitch’ Cup Cakes and orange juice.
This is just one event in a range of activities organised in the library throughout the academy year to promote and celebrate reading and literacy.
Helen said, “It was a really fun event that all students thoroughly enjoyed and really acted out their characters. It is really important that at events like these we celebrate the power of reading. Research has shown that when children have access to books, they enjoy reading more and they read more frequently.”
