If my child has COVID-19 symptoms:
- new continuous cough and/or
- high temperature and/or
- a loss of, or change in, normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)
Action Needed
- Do Not Come to school
- Get a test as soon as possible for the child displaying symptoms
- If positive self-isolate the child for 10 days,
- Inform the school about illness and test outcome
- Other household member (including siblings) are advised to undertake a PCR but do not need to isolate unless they test positive or develop COVID 19 symptoms
Return to School
If test result is negative, the child should return to school straight away, unless they are too unwell to attend
Or
If test result is positive, the child should return when the 10 day isolation period for them has ended, unless they are still too unwell to attend
If my child has tested positive for COVID-19
Action Needed
- Do Not Come to school
- Child to self-isolate for 10 days
- Inform the school as soon as possible
- Please note you will be contacted by NHS Test and Trace who will provide advice
Return to School
The child should return when the 10 day isolation period for them has ended, unless they are still too unwell to attend.
If my child has tested negative for COVID-19
Action Needed
The child should attend school
My child is ill with symptoms not linked to Covid-19 e.g.
- Sickness
- Diarrhoea
- Runny nose
Action Needed
Follow usual absence procedure
Return to School
As soon as the child feels well enough
And/or 48hrs has passed since last bout of sickness or diarrhoea (if this is the cause of absence)

Children can still attend school if they don’t have Covid 19 symptoms
