John Cabot Students play at the home of English rugby

Students from John Cabot Academy had a once in a lifetime opportunity to play at the formidable home of England rugby, Twickenham. One year 10 young leader and twelve Year 7 students took part in six tag rugby matches before the England V Wales game, part of the Six Nations tournament.

John Cabot won all six games beating a team from Regis Academy, Wales. Tag rugby is a fast-moving, non-contact game suitable for boys and girls to play together.

John Cabot students had previously been invited by the Rugby Football Union (RFU) to make some rugby training videos and the RFU were so impressed with them, they were then invited to Twickenham for the Six Nations’ schools tag rugby tournament.

Joe Thomas, head of PE at JCA, said: “The whole experience has been fantastic for so many students at JCA. The students working with England coaches to make the coaching videos, the trip to Twickenham to see the Barbarians and finally the students playing and refereeing on the Twickenham pitch during the Six Nations. Students have been given opportunities and memories that will last a lifetime!”
