Amanda Coffey

Professor Amanda Coffey FAcSS is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost at the University of the West of England, Bristol (UWE Bristol). In her role she is the Chief Academic Officer for the University, with strategic responsibility for learning, teaching and research.

Amanda joined UWE Bristol in 2020; prior to which she was Pro Vice-Chancellor for Student Experience and Academic Standards and a member of the University Executive Board at Cardiff University. Amanda also served terms as Head of the School of Social Sciences, and Dean for Education and Students for the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at Cardiff University.

Amanda has had a distinguished academic career focused on the social sciences, particularly social policy and qualitative research methods. Her research focus has included transitions to adulthood, adoption studies and ethnography. Amanda was appointed as Fellow of The Academy of Social Sciences in 2011.

Amanda served as a full Panel Member of the 2023 Teaching Excellence Framework and is a Member of the Advisory Group for the Disabled Students’ Commitment. Amanda is an experienced school governor, including serving as chair of governing bodies. Amanda became a Trustee of the Cabot Learning Federation in 2026. She also served as Trustee (and Co-chair of the Board) for Arnolfini, Bristol’s International Centre for Contemporary Arts, from 2021-2026.
