We provide excellent training and development opportunities within the Federation, including a full induction programme for newly qualified and experienced teachers.

Training is both local and/or delivered through our excellent stand-alone training facility at the CLF Institute.

The CLF Institute training and development programmes benefit from the resources and experience across our Federation. These include:

  • Phase and subject experts who teach students from ages 3-19
  • Professional service leaders with expertise in Finance, Governance, Health & Safety, Human Resources, IT/EdTech, Safeguarding and Communications
  • Education leaders with diverse experience at all levels
  • A decade of experience supporting new teachers, from initial teacher training through newly qualified and early career stage
  • Dedicated professional development venues at the CLF Institute

In addition, the team at the Institute organise and host conferences for internal and external colleagues to support education, training and development and share best practice.

The Institute is also home to the Boolean Maths Hub, which works with schools and colleges to support the continuous improvement of mathematics education for all students in Bath & North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset, Somerset & South Gloucestershire.

Train to be a teacher with CLF SCITT

The CLF is privileged to be accredited by the Department for Education to deliver initial teacher training (ITT) leading to the award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). The CLF SCITT partnership offers school-centred initial teacher training for early years, primary and secondary phases.

Our programme is a one-year, postgraduate training delivered mainly in schools. Our trainee teachers work alongside experienced professionals, subject experts and mentors – and of course, our pupils – learning about, observing and practising teaching.

Our ITT programme aims to develop excellent teachers committed to being the best they can be, as we know that highly effective teaching is the best thing we can provide for all pupils and particularly to support our more disadvantaged learners to achieve and be successful.

We make sure our trainees learn and develop so they are ready for their next steps as Early Career Teachers (ECT), able to make a positive impact in schools in the local region and beyond. For those who go on to be employed in schools within the CLF or our wider SCITT partnership, there is a continuum from ITT into our Five Counties ECT programmes and on to our NPQ leadership development programmes.
