Hospitality and catering students at Hans Price Academy had a fantastic opportunity to take part in a hands-on fish filleting workshop.
The school was delighted to welcome Labby, a fishmonger from Waitrose, who demonstrated how to fillet fresh mackerel.
Year 11 students were fascinated to see professional techniques in action and then had a go at preparing their own fillets under expert guidance.
The fish was generously supplied by Seafoods in Burnham-on-Sea, giving students the chance to work with top-quality, locally-sourced ingredients.
“It was a brilliant opportunity for our students to learn new skills directly from an industry professional,” said Miss Cole, hospitality and catering teacher. “They absolutely loved the experience and were really proud of what they achieved.”
Year 11 student, Aston, thoroughly enjoyed the workshop. He said: “It was epic! Labby was amazing, she taught me how to block fillet the mackerel and how to debone it.”
It was a brilliant session that not only helped our budding chefs develop new skills but also gave them a real taste of what it’s like to work in the hospitality and catering industry.
A huge thank you to Waitrose and Seafoods Burnham-on-Sea for making this learning experience possible.
