King’s Oak staff wear green to support Mental Health Week

Staff at King’s Oak Academy wore green to work in support of Mental Health Awareness Week.

The colour green is chosen because it is the internationally recognised colour for mental health advocacy. Just as green returns in spring after the winter, the colour represents hope, new beginnings, and emotional recovery.

By wearing green, staff encouraged children to ask questions about why they were dressed in the colour, helping to open important conversations around mental health and wellbeing, how and who to ask for help, and promoting kindness across the school site.

Andrew Marshall-Aherne, Assistant Principal at King’s Oak Academy, said: “Mental health and wellbeing are incredibly important to us at King’s Oak Academy.

“By taking part in Wear It Green Day, we wanted to help normalise conversations around mental health and encourage our students to understand the importance of kindness, support and speaking up when they need help.

“It was fantastic to see both staff and children engaging so positively with the message.”
