Bristol Brunel Academy student Nian Wellington has raised a whopping £2,186 for charity.
The Year 7 student, who is a keen runner, raised the money in memory of his father by taking part in the Race For Life. The event is Cancer Research UK’s biggest series of fundraising events, with runs taking place throughout the UK. Race For Life events include 3k, 5k and 10k routes, as well as Pretty Muddy obstacle events.
Tragically Nian lost his dad, Paul Wellington, six years ago to cancer at the young age of 45. Nian and his mum decided the Race For Life event would be appropriate way to raise money for the charity in Paul’s memory, as his Dad had also been a runner. This grand sum of money raised came from family, friends, the local community, and the academy.
Nian said: “I think my Dad would be very proud of me and the money I have raised. I have no further plans at the moment to raise money, but that may change in the future.”
Alice Livingstone, Achievement Year 7 Leader at Bristol Brunel Academy, said: “We are so proud of Nian for his determination and commitment in raising this money, along with his family, for Cancer Research UK. It is wonderful to see someone so young display such strength of character and he is a credit to our school.”
