Year 2 pupils from Uphill Primary Academy recently embarked on an exciting educational trip to visit the iconic SS Great Britain, delving into the life and legacy of Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
During their visit, the children explored Brunel’s remarkable ship, immersing themselves in the rich history of this engineering marvel.
They had the opportunity to try on period clothing, giving them a taste of what life was like in the Victorian era.
Pupils also enjoyed steering the ship, stepping into the shoes of a 19th-century sailor.
One of the highlights of the visit was an immersive cinema experience, where pupils witnessed history unfold through the eyes of Brunel himself. This engaging journey allowed students to better understand the ship’s design, engineering feats, and its significance in maritime history.
Sam Hodder, Principal at Uphill Primary, said: “Our visit to the SS Great Britain was an unforgettable experience for our Year 2 pupils.
“Seeing history brought to life in such a creative and interactive way has truly enhanced their learning.
“The opportunity to immerse themselves in Victorian life and understand the achievements of Isambard Kingdom Brunel was invaluable.”
