Wicklea Academy Welcomes Watson the academy dog

It was a truly special occasion at Wicklea Academy as staff and pupils celebrated ‘Welcome Watson to Wicklea’ day.

The academy introduced its newest and furriest member of the school community, Watson, an eight-month-old cockapoo.

Watson, who lives with the school’s SENDCO Mrs Lucas and her family, had his first official day at the academy and quickly became a beloved addition to the school community.

Known for his gentle nature, Watson spent his debut day enjoying the company of the children, receiving lots of attention, and taking naps.

“The children have been absolutely amazing with Watson,” said Mrs Lucas. “They’ve been calm, welcoming, and so excited to see him. It’s clear he’s already bringing joy to the school.”

Watson is set to play a significant role in promoting wellbeing for both pupils and staff. As an academy dog, he will be a comforting presence for children who might need extra support, offering companionship and a calming influence.

A school spokesperson said: “We are thrilled to have Watson join us at Wicklea Academy. He’s already made such a positive impression, and we’re excited to see the long-term impact he will have on our school community.”

Wicklea Academy looks forward to sharing more moments with Watson as he settles into his new role.
