Thousands of children across the UK are being “set up to fail” because of a widespread lack of understanding about dyscalculia, a learning difficulty often described as the “dyslexia of numbers,” a new report warns.
Dyscalculia affects an estimated one in 20 people, yet awareness and support for the condition remain significantly lower than for other learning difficulties. The condition impacts a person’s ability to understand numbers, perform basic arithmetic, and grasp mathematical concepts, often leading to challenges in both education and everyday life.
ITV News West Country went along to King’s Oak Academy to speak to Anthony Wilkinson, Teacher of Mathematics to find out more.
